The Council is the highest decision making body of the Society. It is entirely made up of nine (9) elected members. It sets the strategy for the Society and at this point also implements some of those strategies. As the profession grows and becomes more financially sustainable, we envisage a separation between Council and executive duties.
The current Council is made up of the following members;
Loreen Makwanya (FIA)
Loreen Makwanya is a qualified actuary with 12 years experience in the financial services industry. She has experience in investments, pensions, and life insurance. She has worked in Africa and the UK.
She is the current Head of Strategy & Reporting Old Mutual Zimbabwe and is also working across 12 countries in Africa through her role as Executive Assistant to the Managing Director of Old Mutual Rest of Africa

Donald Hove (FIA)
Donald has over ten years’ experience in the actuarial field. He has solid experience in carrying out all aspects of actuarial work within the Southern Africa region. He has specific exposure in life, general and health insurance work.
He has a passion for developing actuarial involvement in wider fields and leadership roles. He believes Zimbabwean actuaries should be significant enablers for entrepreneurs by going beyond statutory roles. He is also driven by a vision of using information technology advances to improve the local insurance industry.
Donald is a volunteer in a wide range of areas that include church, community and social services. He enjoys traveling, meeting new people and experiencing cultural diversity. He has an avid interest in music and is involved in music sponsorship and talent development. He likes to summarise his mission in life as impacting people to achieve self-fulfillment and creating a better future for the coming generations.
Nyaradzai Lynette Tasaranarwo
Nyaradzai is a Research Specialist at Premier Service Medical Aid Society. She possesses over seven years’ experience in the health and short-term insurance. She is an actuarial professional with an excellent balance between technical skills and commercial awareness. She is passionate about actuarial science development hence volunteers with the Actuarial Society of Zimbabwe.
She holds a MSc in Actuarial Science from the University of Kent (UK). She is a nearly qualified actuary.
Prosper Matiashe (FIA)
Prosper is a Fellow of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries and specializes in life insurance and healthcare. He is the Business Development Actuary for FBC Holdings where he leads product development, pricing and strategy. FBC Holdings is one of the largest banking groups in Zimbabwe with assets worth over USD 1 billion and has interests in banking, asset management, insurance and microfinance. I he is also leading the creation of a group actuarial function for the company.
He is an active volunteer for the actuarial profession and currently serve as:
- Treasurer of the Actuarial Society of Zimbabwe
- Secretary of the IAA Banking Working Group
- Career Ambassador for the IFoA
Qhelile Ndlovu currently works for Minerva Re, Zimbabwe’s largest reinsurance broker, where she specializes in analytics, research and product development across general and life insurance. Prior to joining Minerva, Qhelile worked for the World Bank in Washington D.C. as a consultant on disaster risk financing and agricultural insurance.
Qhelile graduated from the University of Oxford after reading for an MSc in Statistics and an MSc in African Studies. She also holds a BSc in Financial Mathematics (cum laude) and Actuarial Science (summa cum laude) from the University of Kwa- Zulu Natal in South Africa. She is currently studying for her 11th exam with the IFoA.
She is mother to Xolile and wife to Xolani, with whom she enjoys travelling and looks forward to visiting 45 more African countries with.
Rutendo Magorimbo (FFA)
Rutendo has nearly two decades of experience in the financial services industry. Currently, she is the General Manager for Old Mutual Life Assurance Company and a council member of the Zimbabwe Association of Pension Funds.
Prior to her role as General Manager, Rutendo was the Chief Risk Officer for Old Mutual Africa with risk and compliance oversight over the 13 countries in Africa where Old Mutual has operations. She has also held various roles within the Old Mutual group in Zimbabwe, including Head of Strategy and Reporting and Actuarial executive for the Life business.
Rutendo holds a BSc (Honors) degree in Actuarial Mathematics and Statistics from Heriott Watt University, an MBA from the University of Cape Town and is a Fellow of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries (UK).
Melody is an actuarial consultant. Her experience includes life insurance, product development and pricing, pension valuation and micro-finance business analysis. She has been a member of the council since May 2019.
